The Attorney General and Minister for Justice, Dr Dominic Ayine, has praised the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) for exceeding its 2025 asset recovery target by a wide margin, describing the agency’s performance as unprecedented.
Addressing the media on Thursday, December 18, Dr Ayine said EOCO has recovered GH¢337.4 million so far in 2025, far surpassing its original target of GH¢200 million.
He attributed the achievement to improved institutional leadership, stressing that strong and principled leadership is essential for the effective functioning of state institutions.
According to Dr Ayine, the leadership direction provided by President John Dramani Mahama, together with EOCO’s internal management, has strengthened integrity within the agency and enhanced its ability to carry out its mandate.
“EOCO has exceeded its 2025 target, which was set at 200 million. Recoveries currently stand at 337.4 million, meaning the agency has surpassed its target by over 133.4 million. This is the highest recovery in EOCO’s history,” he said.
The Attorney General further disclosed that EOCO has also recovered assets valued at more than US$15 million from a fraudulent Malaysian company following extensive investigations.
He explained that part of the recovered funds would be used to compensate victims of an offshore cryptocurrency fraud scheme that targeted unsuspecting Ghanaians, while the remaining amount would be paid into the state’s consolidated fund.
“Through complex and groundbreaking investigations, EOCO recovered US$15.191 million. Some of the funds will be used to compensate victims who were defrauded, but a larger portion will be retained and paid into the public purse,” Dr Ayine added.
