Aspiring New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer, Dr Bryan Acheampong, has expressed strong confidence that he will win the party’s upcoming presidential primary, insisting he is currently well ahead of his competitors.
The former Minister for Food and Agriculture and ex-MP for Abetifi said he believes his position in the race makes it unlikely for any other contender to emerge victorious.
Speaking in an interview on Joy News on Tuesday, December 16, 2025, Dr Acheampong noted that regardless of the outcome, he would fully support whoever wins the January 31, 2026 flagbearer election.
According to him, unity is critical for the NPP, and all aspirants must be prepared to rally behind the eventual winner for the sake of the party.
“It is a healthy competition. If you don’t do well, we are one party, and you must be bold enough to say you will support the winner,” he said.
“You don’t need to ask me — I will support whoever wins. It is very unlikely for anybody else to win, but if that happens, I will still support the winner. That is what responsible politicians and political parties do,” he added.
Dr Acheampong also lamented what he described as growing divisions within the party, citing an instance where one aspirant reportedly refused to state whether they would support the eventual winner if they lost.
The NPP presidential primary, scheduled for January 31, 2026, will determine the party’s flagbearer ahead of the 2028 general elections.
Meanwhile, an October 2025 poll by Global InfoAnalytics showed changing dynamics in the NPP flagbearer race. Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia remained the frontrunner with 44% support among delegates, down slightly from 47% in earlier polls.
Kennedy Agyapong followed in second place with 19%, reflecting a modest increase in support. Dr Bryan Acheampong and Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum trailed with about 3% and 1% respectively.
The survey also revealed that 27% of delegates were undecided, while 4% declined to state their preferred candidate.
