**Atta Akyea questions Ken Agyapong’s temperament for presidency**
Former Minister for Works and Housing, Samuel Atta Akyea, has raised concerns about the suitability of former Assin Central MP Kennedy Ohene Agyapong for the presidency, citing his volatile temperament as a potential threat even to senior government officials.
Speaking in an interview on UTV, Atta Akyea stressed that his comments are not personal, but reflect serious reservations about Agyapong’s ability to handle the pressures of high office.
“I have no issues with Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, not even a single one. However, leadership consists of many factors. I am concerned about the man’s temperament. I fear he could even assault a cabinet minister; he has a bad temperament. There is nothing he shows patience with, and he does not know how to handle matters behind closed doors,” he said.
The former minister emphasised that effective leadership requires more than business success or public popularity. “The temperament of a president should include shock absorbers, someone who can absorb pressure, not someone who always believes he has an issue with others,” he added.
Atta Akyea acknowledged Agyapong’s achievements as a businessman but questioned whether those skills could be combined with political competence, intellectual capacity, and vision, particularly given his age. “I believe we can support him as a businessman, but when we consider competence, temperament, intellectual prowess and vision, the question remains: at his age, how do you tame him?”
The former minister also addressed claims of rigging during internal NPP elections, asserting that no candidate had a plan to favour Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia and that all aspirants had agents at polling centres to safeguard the process.
