We’re Ready for Kpandai Parliamentary Rerun — Electoral Commission

The Electoral Commission (EC) has announced its readiness to conduct the parliamentary rerun in the Kpandai Constituency, scheduled for Tuesday, December 30, 2025, despite an ongoing legal challenge at the Supreme Court.

Deputy Director of Research at the EC, Fred Tetteh, said preparations for the rerun are progressing smoothly, emphasizing that the Commission is acting strictly in accordance with the law while monitoring developments at the apex court.

Speaking in an interview with Joy News on Monday, December 15, Mr. Tetteh explained that the December 30 date was fixed as part of the EC’s statutory mandate and would only change if the Supreme Court rules otherwise.

“We are aware of an appeal in court, and as a law-abiding institution, we fixed the date on December 30, 2025. We don’t know what will happen from the appeal. Whatever happens, if the Supreme Court rules otherwise, we will comply,” he said.

Mr. Tetteh disclosed that ballot papers will be printed in Accra, with political parties to be duly notified of the printing schedule. He added that training of election officials will be conducted within five days of the poll, while recruitment processes are already underway.

According to him, the EC has recalled officials who will supervise the rerun and will soon publish a Notice of Poll to formally inform residents of Kpandai about the election and related arrangements.

“In terms of ballot paper printing, we will inform the political parties of the date. Training will be done within five days of the poll. We are ready. These activities can be completed within 10 days,” he noted, adding that all election materials will be produced in Accra.

The Kpandai parliamentary seat was declared vacant following a ruling by the Tamale High Court, which ordered a rerun of the election. The affected Member of Parliament, Mathew Nyindam, has since filed an application at the Supreme Court seeking to quash the High Court judgment that annulled his election victory.

Meanwhile, a new poll conducted by Global InfoAnalytics ahead of the rerun projects Mr. Nyindam, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) candidate, as the leading contender. The survey, released on Sunday, December 14, 2025, places him at 50 percent voter support.

His closest rival, Daniel Nsala Wakpal of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), garnered 46 percent, indicating a tightly contested race as the constituency prepares for the rerun.
