MP’s Diary: Kpembewura Endorses Plans for Forestry Commission Office in Salaga

A delegation from the Forestry Commission of Ghana, led by Mr. Frank Adomakor-Kwabia, Regional Manager for the Savannah Region, visited Salaga this morning as part of ongoing efforts to establish a District Forestry Commission Office in the East Gonja Municipality.

The initiative follows a formal request made by the Member of Parliament for the Salaga South Constituency, Hon. Hajia Zuwera Mohammed, aimed at enhancing forest management and protection in the area.

Upon arrival, the team paid a courtesy call on His Majesty, Kpembewura Banbange Ndefoso IV, and his sub-chiefs to officially announce their mission. His Majesty warmly welcomed the delegation and commended the MP for her commitment to the welfare and development of her constituents.

At the Kpembewura’s Palace, Mr. Adomakor-Kwabia explained that their visit was sanctioned by the Chief Executive Officer of the Forestry Commission. The team was tasked to inspect temporary office spaces and accommodation facilities in preparation for establishing the new district office. He noted that East Gonja, North East Gonja, and Central Gonja Districts are currently under the Yendi Forest District, and due to the vastness of the area, effective administration and supervision pose significant challenges. He therefore described the request for a district office in Salaga as timely and necessary.

Mr. Adomakor-Kwabia expressed gratitude to the Kpembewura, the Municipal Chief Executive, and the staff of the MP’s office for their warm reception and collaboration.

His Majesty Kpembewura Banbange Ndefoso IV welcomed the move wholeheartedly, highlighting the pressing issues of deforestation and rampant charcoal production in the area.

“I am happy to receive your team and welcome the decision to establish a Forestry Commission office in Salaga. The issue of deforestation and charcoal production is a serious concern to me as a leader in this Municipality, and I am ready to partner with your office to address this phenomenon. You have my full blessings, and I am prepared to release land for the construction of your permanent office and staff bungalows,” he said.

He further appealed to the MP, the Municipal Chief Executive and all stakeholders to work closely with the Forestry Commission to ensure the successful establishment of the district office.

Following the palace engagement, the delegation, led by the Municipal Chief Executive, inspected several temporary structures proposed for office space and staff accommodation.
