The Ashanti Regional Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Augustus Nana Kwasi Andrews, says the party is facing intense pressure from its grassroots supporters who are expecting jobs and appointments.
Addressing journalists in Kumasi on December 8, Mr. Andrews appealed for patience, assuring members that their efforts in securing victory in the 2024 elections have not been forgotten.
Although the Ashanti Region has long been considered a stronghold of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), the NDC achieved considerable progress in both parliamentary and presidential votes. More than a year after the election, however, local party leaders and government officials are increasingly confronted with demands for employment opportunities from supporters.
Mr. Andrews acknowledged the challenge, noting that many feel entitled to rewards after committing their time, energy and resources to the campaign. “A lot of people are asking for opportunities,” he said.
He urged the party’s branches to stay calm and have confidence in President John Dramani Mahama, stressing that while not everyone can be accommodated, efforts are being made to ensure fairness.
“The grassroots want more, and everyone wants their share. I’m asking them to stay hopeful. Not everyone will get a position, but for those who do, we must ensure the benefits trickle down so that everyone feels valued,” he said.
Mr. Andrews added that the regional leadership will continue collaborating with the government to implement key promises and ensure the Ashanti Region receives the development it was assured.
He emphasised that the NDC remains committed to meeting the expectations of residents in the region
