Vice President Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang has urged newly qualified medical doctors to use their skills where they are most needed, stressing that medicine is a calling rooted in service rather than personal comfort.
She made the call while addressing the 6th Congregation and 10th Anniversary ceremony of the Accra College of Medicine (ACM) on Saturday, December 6, 2025. She encouraged the graduates to begin their professional journeys with empathy, professionalism, and a strong sense of national responsibility.
The Vice President noted that many communities across Ghana still face serious challenges in accessing quality healthcare and appealed to the new doctors to help reduce these inequalities.
“Your training comes with a responsibility to serve, not just where it is most convenient, but where your service is most needed,” she said. “Those who are best prepared must put duty above personal comfort.”
Prof. Opoku-Agyemang also reminded the graduates to remain faithful to the values of the Hippocratic Oath, urging them to practise with fairness, compassion, and respect for the dignity of every patient.
“You are entering a profession founded on service, equity, and courage,” she added. “Let your decisions reflect not only your ambitions, but also your oath—to go where suffering exists, where healing is limited, and to honour the trust the nation has placed in you.”
The ceremony also marked a decade of ACM’s contribution to training medical professionals and strengthening Ghana’s healthcare workforce.
