Bond Market, Cathedral Decisions Confused Me – Kufuor Criticises Akufo-Addo Governance

Former President John Agyekum Kufuor has voiced disappointment in the performance of the Akufo-Addo administration, particularly in the period following the COVID‑19 pandemic.

In an interview with Deloris Frimpong Manso, shared on X on December 6, 2025, Kufuor stated that while Akufo-Addo began his tenure on a promising note, the government’s approach changed after the pandemic. He noted that many policies were implemented without his consultation, leaving him unable to understand some decisions made by the former NPP government.

He cited examples such as the bond market and the construction of the national cathedral, highlighting that government resources were used without proper consultation. Kufuor also criticized the demolition of the judges’ building for the cathedral project, noting it remained incomplete despite the expenditure.

“During the 2016 election, they leveraged my achievements to win power. They started well, but after COVID-19, things began to shift. I commend the way the pandemic was handled, but afterward, I struggled to understand several decisions,” he said.

Despite the criticisms, Kufuor advised members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to remain united and adhere to the party’s principles. He emphasized that truthfulness, transparency, and cohesion are crucial for the party’s future electoral success.

“They may not all be friends, but bound by the party’s principles, they must present a united front. That is what Ghanaians expect,” he added.
