Private legal practitioner Martin Kpebu has insisted that he will not hand over evidence relating to his corruption allegations against Special Prosecutor Kissi Agyebeng to officers of the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP), maintaining that only an independent, neutral body can receive such material.
Speaking on Newsfile on Saturday, December 6, Mr. Kpebu said his refusal to submit evidence to OSP investigators — who report directly to the Special Prosecutor — was the trigger for his recent invitation to the office and the tense confrontation that followed.
According to him, his earlier public criticism of Mr. Agyebeng’s leadership style and alleged misconduct prompted the OSP to summon him for interrogation. He honoured the invitation but insisted he would not present evidence to the very institution headed by the individual he had accused.
“I had already made allegations against the Special Prosecutor himself, so how could I turn around and hand over the evidence to people who work under him?” he asked.
He said his position created friction at the OSP premises, leading to what he describes as “abusive treatment” from some officers and his eventual arrest.
“The arrest and the way I was treated only proved my point. There was clear intimidation,” Mr. Kpebu claimed, adding that the incident deepened his concerns about the OSP’s impartiality.
The lawyer argued that submitting evidence to OSP investigators would compromise the integrity of the process and expose him to inherent conflicts of interest.
“How do I submit evidence about the Special Prosecutor to his own juniors? It simply cannot happen. There must be a neutral body,” he stressed.
Mr. Kpebu said he remains ready and willing to provide all evidence regarding his allegations, but only before a properly constituted, independent board with no ties to the OSP’s leadership.
“Transparency and fairness are essential, especially when the conduct of a high-ranking public officer is in question. I will submit everything, but only to an independent panel. That is the only way to ensure justice and protect the rights of citizens,” he added.
