Ghana Marks 41st National Farmers’ Day Today, Celebrating Heroes of Food Security

Ghana today commemorates the 41st National Farmers’ Day, honouring the country’s hardworking farmers and fishers whose dedication continues to fuel national food security, job creation, and rural development.

The 2025 celebration began on Monday, December 1, with the official opening of the National Agricultural Fair at the Ho Sports Stadium. The fair has attracted thousands of participants, including farmers, agripreneurs, policymakers, investors, agro-tech innovators, and exhibitors showcasing modern tools, machinery, and climate-smart solutions.

This year’s theme, “Feed Ghana, Eat Ghana, Secure the Future,” highlights the nation’s renewed focus on agricultural transformation, sustainable food systems, and improved resilience against climate and economic shocks.

The climax of the event happens today, Friday, December 5, where President John Dramani Mahama is expected to honour national best farmers across multiple crop, livestock, aquaculture, and agribusiness categories. Awards will also recognise innovation, conservation efforts, youth in agriculture, and impactful community leadership.

Activities are taking place simultaneously across the country at the national, regional, and district levels, with thousands of Ghanaians participating in ceremonies to celebrate outstanding contributions in the agricultural sector.

Since its establishment in 1985, Farmers’ Day has become one of Ghana’s most important national observances, providing a platform to recognise and motivate farmers and fishers whose work remains critical to the country’s socio-economic development.

This year’s milestone edition reinforces the central message that Ghana’s future prosperity is deeply tied to the strength and resilience of its agricultural sector.
