OSP Detains Lawyer Martin Kpebu at Undisclosed Location

Private legal practitioner Martin Kpebu has been detained by officials of the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP), his lawyers have confirmed.

The detention on Wednesday, December 3, followed Kpebu’s response to an invitation from the OSP. He was allegedly arrested for obstructing officers while attending to present corruption allegations against Special Prosecutor Kissi Agyebeng.

Speaking to TV3’s News360, one of Kpebu’s lawyers, Marcellinus Biah, said, “They whisked him away. As we speak now, we are unable to tell where Mr Kpebu is.”

Kpebu has been challenging the Special Prosecutor over purported contradictory statements concerning former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta. He questioned claims that the National Intelligence Bureau (NIB) refused to assist in an attempted arrest of Ofori-Atta, stating he independently verified the matter with current and former NIB officials.

“The head of an anti-corruption body cannot lie to citizens, run down state institutions without evidence, and expect to remain in office. This is a serious breach of integrity. NIB has formally stated they never received any request from the Special Prosecutor,” Kpebu said.

He presented an official response from NIB dated November 27, 2025, confirming no formal request had been received from the OSP regarding the matter.

Kpebu criticised what he called the running down of state institutions without evidence and suggested that the Special Prosecutor’s actions could warrant a Commission of Inquiry under the Constitution.

“If it was a slip of tongue, he should have said so from the start. The continued justification only shows it was deliberate,” Kpebu said.

He added that public pressure is necessary to demand accountability, arguing that the Special Prosecutor has “lost the plot” and should not remain in office following what he described as a serious breach of integrity.
