Member of Parliament for Bimbilla, Dominic Nitiwul, has dismissed a circulating video in which he allegedly urged New Patriotic Party (NPP) delegates in Yendi not to support flagbearer aspirant Kennedy Agyapong.
Nitiwul clarified that the footage is a recycled clip from the 2023 NPP presidential primaries and not a statement made during the ongoing 2025 campaign season. He said his remarks were a response to ethnocentric comments Agyapong had made about Northerners at that time.
In a statement, the former Defence Minister said:
“This 2023 video has been misleadingly presented by Hon Kennedy Agyapong and his team as a recent recording. Since responding to his negative remarks in 2023, I have not mentioned his name in any campaign engagements.”
He noted that Agyapong had, in 2023, accused Northerners of occupying too many ministerial positions and questioned why prominent northern politicians, including John Mahama, Hassan Ayariga, and Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, were seeking their parties’ flagbearership.
Nitiwul stressed that his response was justified and warned against twisting the remarks to sow disunity. He added that northern MPs would focus on party cohesion ahead of the 2028 elections rather than respond to provocations.
The MP concluded that his reputation, built over years of public service, would not be compromised by political propaganda.
