Presidency Yet to Receive Jean Mensa Removal Petition – Kwakye Ofosu

Government Spokesperson Felix Kwakye Ofosu says the Office of the President has not yet received the petition filed by Electoral Commission (EC) staffer Joseph Blankson Adumadzie seeking the removal of EC Chairperson Jean Mensa and her two deputies.

According to Mr. Kwakye Ofosu, such petitions are formally routed through the Secretary to the President, who is yet to sight any document relating to the matter.

“Normally, it will go to the Secretary to the President if it is addressed to the President. I’ve engaged him. He has not sighted it yet,” he told journalists. “But I’m sure that when it arrives, there is a long-standing process it will go through, and any information on that will be conveyed to the public.”

No Similar Petition Received

When asked whether any other petition had been submitted against EC leadership, the Abura Asebu-Kwamankese MP said he was not aware of any.

He noted that if there were a separate petition and it reached the Secretary’s office, the public would be informed—just as was done in the recent case involving the Chief Justice.

Commitment to Transparency

Mr. Kwakye Ofosu emphasised that the government is committed to providing timely updates while adhering strictly to constitutional procedures.

He explained that the new approach reflects a deliberate shift towards openness, given that public officials hold office in trust for the citizens.

“No one owns a public office,” he said. “Those who occupy such positions use the mandate and resources of the people and must account for their actions.”

He added that informing the public about petitions received against office holders helps avoid situations where major decisions appear to emerge without context or explanation.

Accountability Within the Law

While underscoring transparency, he stressed that government actions remain within legal limits.

“Transparency and accountability guide this practice, but we cannot act outside what the law permits,” he noted.

Mr. Kwakye Ofosu said he has been in office for only 10 months and remains committed to ensuring that all processes are handled openly and lawfully.
