The Minority in Parliament has disclosed that Zipline, the medical drone delivery company, is set to shut down three of its centres (Centres 4, 5 and 6) due to the government’s failure to pay a GH¢175 million debt owed to the company.
During the debate on the 2026 Budget, Dr Ayew Afriyie, Ranking Member on Parliament’s Health Committee, warned that the shutdown will endanger public health, especially in remote areas that rely on Zipline for blood, vaccines, and other emergency medical supplies.
He criticised the government for making only a GH¢20 million budget allocation for Zipline despite the heavy debt, and for failing to engage the company to prevent service disruption.
