New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer hopeful Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia says he has the record, ideas, and experience required to transform Ghana, promising that if elected President, he will make living standards in the country comparable to those abroad — a vision he describes as bringing “Abrokyire” to Ghana.
Speaking to party supporters in a video sighted by Masemtvgh.com on Saturday, November 15, Dr. Bawumia outlined what he views as some of the major achievements driven by innovation during his tenure as Vice President, particularly in the area of digital transformation.
He recalled that prior to the NPP’s assumption of office, the Ghana Card system had not been fully implemented. He said he was assigned oversight responsibility to work closely with the National Identification Authority (NIA) to ensure the successful rollout of the card.
“We issued the Ghana Card, and today Ghana is one of the few countries in the world with this type of digital national ID,” he stated.
Dr. Bawumia also highlighted reforms in the mobile money space, noting that before these interventions, mobile money transfers could neither be sent across networks nor linked to bank accounts.
“I said it was possible for us to do it in Ghana, and we have done it,” he stressed.
According to him, the mobile money interoperability system has transformed digital financial services, now allowing Ghanaians to renew their health insurance, pay utility bills, and even receive international remittances directly into their mobile wallets. He added that Ghana is the only African country offering such a comprehensive platform.
He further indicated that the growth of mobile money services has generated massive employment opportunities. “When we came, MoMo agents were 107,000. Now they are 900,000. We have created 800,000 jobs for MoMo agents,” he noted.
Dr. Bawumia urged Ghanaians to judge him by his performance, insisting that it is innovative ideas — not the amount of money available — that drive real development.
“You have seen what I can do as Vice President without the power. If you make me President with the power, I will bring ‘Abrokyire’ to Ghana here,” he declared.
