Mahama Administration Isn’t Just Stabilising an Economy — It’s Rebuilding a Nation: Ato Forson

Minister for Finance, Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, says the Mahama administration’s economic vision goes far beyond stabilising Ghana’s economy, stressing that the government is deliberately rebuilding the nation and laying a durable foundation for inclusive, long-term prosperity.

Presenting the 2026 Budget Statement and Economic Policy to Parliament on Thursday, November 13, Dr. Forson said the government’s comprehensive reforms are part of a broader national renewal agenda rooted in discipline, equity, and structural transformation.

“Mr Speaker, the Mahama Administration is not just stabilising an economy, it is rebuilding a nation,” he declared.

Rebuilding Through Strategic Programmes

The Finance Minister highlighted key initiatives driving this transformation:

  • The Big Push Programme — connecting regions with modern, high-quality infrastructure to boost mobility, trade, and productivity.
  • The Agricultural Transformation Programme — empowering farmers to transition from subsistence to wealth-creating agribusinesses.
  • The 24-Hour Economy and Accelerated Export Development Programme — positioning Ghana as a competitive, export-driven economy “that never sleeps.”

Dr. Forson said these programmes demonstrate government’s commitment to building a resilient economy capable of generating jobs, attracting investment, and supporting long-term growth.

A Budget That Sends a Message of Hope

Describing the 2026 Budget as “more than numbers,” the Minister said it represents a renewed social contract with the Ghanaian people.

“It tells every Ghanaian child, farmer, teacher, trader, and entrepreneur that their sacrifices matter, that Ghana’s recovery is real, and that their government is working tirelessly to build a fair, prosperous, and self-reliant nation.”

He insisted that the administration remains anchored on fiscal discipline, social equity, and sustainable development, assuring that “no Ghanaian will be left behind.”

Anchoring Stability, Deepening Transformation

Dr. Forson stated that the National Democratic Congress (NDC) government is consolidating the macroeconomic stability achieved since 2025 while pushing deeper structural reforms to secure long-term gains.

“The storm has passed. The foundation is firm. The horizon is bright.”

He praised President John Dramani Mahama’s leadership, describing him as “the nation builder” guiding Ghana toward renewed national pride and economic vibrancy.

“Together, under the visionary leadership of President John Dramani Mahama, we are building the Ghana we want — a Ghana that works for all, thrives in peace, and stands tall once again as the beacon of Africa’s renewal.”

Dr. Forson reaffirmed the 2026 Budget’s theme, “Resetting for Growth, Jobs and Economic Transformation,” assuring Parliament that Ghana is rising “stronger, fairer, and unstoppable.”
