The Member of Parliament for Asutifi North Constituency, Hon. Ebenezer Kwaku Addo, has issued a press release addressing recent reports alleging his involvement in a confrontation between residents of Asutifi South and a Military Taskforce deployed on National Assignment (NAIMOS).
In a detailed statement dated November 3, 2025, the MP described the incident as unfortunate and provided a chronology of events leading to the tension. According to him, while on his way to attend a funeral at Acherensua on November 1, 2025, he learned of a military operation taking place at a gold extraction site near Hwidiem. Upon inquiry, he was asked by Hon. Collins Dauda, MP for Asutifi South, who was out of the country, to represent him and ascertain what was happening.
Hon. Addo stated that he visited the site with his constituency Vice Chairman and driver, introduced himself to the military team, and advised the gathering youth to move to the police station to de-escalate the situation. He further explained that he remained at the Hwidiem Police Station with other security officials, including the Regional Police Commander, NIB operatives, and the Kenyasi Police Commander, to ensure calm.
He added that after handing over the seized items to the Regional Crime Officer, the Zongo Chief of Hwidiem volunteered his vehicle to transport the military officers, as their pickup truck had been tampered with. Unfortunately, the Zongo Chief’s vehicle was later damaged at the back while he (the MP) had gone to attend other funerals in Ntotroso, Gyedu, and Wamahinso.
Hon. Addo categorically denied inciting the youth against security officers, emphasizing that under no circumstance would he act in such a manner. “As a responsible lawmaker, I offered my support to ensure there is calmness in the area and will always work together with every security agency to maintain law and order,” he stated.
He also expressed disappointment that the police failed to acknowledge his role in restoring peace in their situation report (SITREP) and urged the public to disregard false narratives aimed at tarnishing his image.
“As your Member of Parliament, I want to assure you that I remain committed to the welfare and safety of the Ghanaian citizens and other state institutions,” Hon. Addo concluded.
