Salaga South MP Cuts Sod for TVET Centre of Excellence, Launches Educational Initiatives to Empower Youth

The Member of Parliament for Salaga South, Hon. Zuwera Mohammed Ibrahimah, has cut the sod for the construction of a Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) Centre of Excellence in Salaga South in the Savannah Region.

Speaking at the ceremony, Hon. Zuwera Mohammed Brahimah stated that, as the Member of Parliament for the constituency, she is committed to making decisions that will drive development in the area. She explained that her personal passion for education inspired the establishment of the Brahimah Educational Fund, which aims to ensure that no talented young person in Salaga South is denied access to education due to financial constraints.

According to the MP, the fund provides scholarships, learning materials, tools, and equipment for students enrolled in the TVET Centre. It also covers examination fees, seed capital for graduates to start businesses, and offers emergency support for students facing unexpected challenges.

Hon. Brahimah further noted that the Brahimah Educational Fund represents her personal covenant with the youth of Salaga South. She pledged to walk with them throughout their educational journey, removing obstacles and creating opportunities for success. “When they succeed, Salaga South succeeds; when they rise, Salaga South rises with them,” she emphasized.

In addition, she announced another transformative initiative — the establishment of the Kuntu Zewura Brahimah Teacher Training College, named after her late father, Kuntu Zewura Brahimah. The college will serve the Eastern Corridor of the Savannah Region and is dedicated to promoting quality teacher education.

Hon. Brahimah recalled that her late father devoted his life to education and public service, believing that “education is the master key that unlocks every door to progress.” She emphasized that strong TVET programmes, basic schools, and secondary institutions depend on well-trained and motivated teachers. The new college, she said, will ensure her father’s legacy lives on in every classroom across the region.

She also indicated that the TVET Centre project is not an isolated initiative but the first phase of a comprehensive transformation agenda aimed at expanding economic opportunities and promoting community prosperity.

Hon. Brahimah projected that within the next five years, young people trained at the centre will be managing thriving businesses; in ten years, they will be employers creating jobs for others; and in fifteen years, many will become industry leaders, policymakers, and role models inspiring the next generation.

“This is not a fantasy,” she said. “It is the future we are actively building — starting right from today.
