The Bank of Ghana (BoG) has announced a significant increase in the licence renewal fees for all accredited foreign exchange bureaux nationwide, raising the biennial charge from GH¢800 to GH¢2,000 — a 150% upward adjustment.
The upward review, the central bank explained, is part of ongoing regulatory reforms aimed at strengthening supervision, improving compliance standards, and ensuring the sustainability of forex bureau operations.
In a statement issued on October 24, the Bank of Ghana indicated that the revised fee takes immediate effect and applies to all licensed operators.
The regulator further reminded forex bureaux to ensure timely licence renewal — at least two months before expiry — in conformity with Section 10 of the Foreign Exchange Act, 2006 (Act 723), and Paragraph 8 of BoG Notice No. BG/GOV/SEC/2003/2 under the Revised Forex Bureau Regulations.
The review reflects BoG’s renewed commitment to upholding financial discipline and enhancing oversight in Ghana’s foreign exchange market.
