Ghana’s Parliament reconvenes today, Tuesday, October 21, 2025, for the Third Meeting of the First Session of the Ninth Parliament, marking the final legislative session for the year.
The sitting is expected to be a busy one, featuring major national events — including the presentation of the 2026 Budget Statement and Economic Policy by the Minister for Finance, Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, scheduled for mid-November.
Two newly elected Members of Parliament, Bernard Bediako Baidoo (Akwatia) and Professor Alidu Seidu (Tamale Central), will also be officially sworn in during the session.
Additionally, the Appointments Committee will begin vetting Justice Paul Baffoe-Bonnie, who has been nominated for the position of Chief Justice following the retirement of Justice Gertrude Torkornoo.
In what is expected to generate intense debate, government is also set to lay a new Legislative Instrument (L.I.) aimed at revoking L.I. 2462, the existing regulation that empowers the President to authorise mining activities in forest reserves — a move seen as part of the renewed campaign against illegal mining, or galamsey.
Lawmakers will further consider bills, motions, and policy statements from various ministries and state institutions as Parliament wraps up its 2025 calendar.
Observers say this meeting will test the government’s policy direction ahead of the 2026 fiscal year and set the tone for next year’s political and economic agenda.
