A leading member of Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s campaign team and former Member of Parliament for Okaikoi South, Nana Akomea, says the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has no justification to replace Dr. Bawumia as its flagbearer ahead of the 2028 general elections.
Speaking in support of the former Vice President’s bid, Nana Akomea argued that Dr. Bawumia’s extensive experience and proven record in governance make him the most qualified to lead the NPP once again.
“He has served as Vice President for eight years and has acted as President during that period. None of these facts has changed. So, for those contesting him, the question is—why do they want him replaced? When it comes to experience, he is still far ahead of his competitors,” Akomea said.
He emphasized that leadership should be assessed not only on competence but also on character and attitude.
“In choosing a leader, we must look at the person’s attitude and character. You need someone who is accessible, respectful, humble, and does not promote division,” he added.
Nana Akomea cautioned against divisive politics, stressing that tribal or religious comments have no place in a party seeking national unity and broad electoral appeal.
“If you choose someone who tells others not to vote for a person because of their tribe, those comments only make things worse. How can such a person convince members of those tribes or religions to vote for him?” he questioned.
Meanwhile, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia is currently on day two of his ‘Our Journey Together’ campaign tour in the Bono East Region. He is expected to visit Pru East, Pru West, and Kintampo North, where he will engage delegates and party supporters as part of efforts to secure the NPP ticket for the 2028 elections.
