Focus on Issues, Not Insults — Vanderpuye Cautions NPP Presidential Aspirants

National Coordinator of the District Road Improvement Project (DRIP), Edwin Nii Lantey Vanderpuye, has advised New Patriotic Party (NPP) presidential aspirants to prioritize issue-based campaigns over personal attacks as they prepare for the party’s January 2026 presidential primaries.

Speaking on Breakfast Daily on Channel One TV, Mr. Vanderpuye urged aspirants to focus their messages on practical policies and strategies that will appeal to delegates rather than engaging in unnecessary rivalries.

“I think I want presidential aspirants to be focused. There’s an internal election — what are the things I have to put before the delegates that show I’ll be a good leader to serve them? That is key,” he said.

His remarks follow comments by NPP flagbearer hopeful Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, who recently stated he would never concede defeat in any election until the Electoral Commission officially declares results — a statement some have interpreted as a jab at former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.

Mr. Vanderpuye cautioned that such rhetoric reflects “unhealthy competition” within the party and risks undermining unity ahead of the 2028 general elections.

He called on aspirants to campaign on leadership vision, party unity, and credibility rather than divisive rhetoric, stressing that the focus should be on “how to lead a united party, make it credible, and inspire confidence in the delegates.”
