NPP Lost 2024 Election Because Supporters Stayed Home, Not Because of NDC Strength – Bawumia

Flagbearer hopeful of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has attributed the party’s loss in the 2024 general elections to voter apathy among its own supporters rather than the strength of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC).

Speaking at the launch of his “Our Journey Together” campaign in the Sene East Constituency on Wednesday, October 15, Dr. Bawumia revealed that statistical analysis from the 2024 elections showed the NPP lost over two million votes compared to its 2020 performance, while the NDC’s winning margin stood at 1.7 million votes.

“Our votes went down. About 2.1 million people who voted for us in 2020 did not show up in 2024. These were NPP members — we simply did not vote,” he explained.

He emphasized that had those supporters participated, the outcome would have been different.

“John Mahama won by 1.7 million votes. If our 2.1 million members had gone out to vote, we would have won. That is why I say it wasn’t the NDC that won — it was the NPP that lost,” Dr. Bawumia asserted.

Expressing confidence in the party’s future, he urged unity and active participation as the NPP prepares for the 2028 elections.

“I am confident that, by the grace of God, if we address our internal challenges and mobilize our base to vote, we will reclaim victory in the next election,” he said.
