My ‘Thank-You Tour’ Is About Gratitude, Not Politics – Asiedu Nketia

National Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketia, has defended his ongoing nationwide thank-you tour, explaining that it is a gesture of appreciation to party members and supporters for their pivotal role in securing the NDC’s 2024 electoral victory.

The tour, which marks the second phase of his post-election engagements since the party assumed office in January 2025, has sparked debate among some political observers who argue that such tours are traditionally led by the presidential candidate rather than the party chairman, especially when the party is in government.

Speaking to party members in the Hohoe Constituency on Tuesday, October 14, Mr. Asiedu Nketia dismissed the criticism, describing his tour as an act rooted in the NDC’s culture of gratitude and solidarity, rather than political grandstanding.

“Those who disagree with me can continue with that, and I will continue to honour my promise. That is why I am here,” he said. “It also sits very well with our tradition that when you go and beg somebody to give you something, and you are given what you request, the next thing is to go and say thank you. That is why I have come to say thank you to everybody.”

He stressed that the visit was not politically motivated, but rather an opportunity to reconnect with the party’s grassroots and express sincere appreciation to those who worked behind the scenes to return the NDC to power.

“This tour is not about politics or position—it is about gratitude. Our members, volunteers, and sympathizers gave their all for this victory, and it is only right that we go back to say thank you,” he added.

Mr. Asiedu Nketia’s engagements form part of broader efforts by the NDC leadership to strengthen party unity and boost morale among supporters as the Mahama administration begins implementing its governance agenda.
