Xi Jinping expresses hope Ghana will soon benefit from China’s zero-tariff trade policy

President John Dramani Mahama has held bilateral discussions with Chinese President Xi Jinping in Beijing as part of his participation in the Global Leaders’ Meeting on Women.

The meeting, which coincided with the 65th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Ghana and China, focused on strengthening political, economic, and development cooperation between the two nations.

President Xi reaffirmed China’s commitment to deepening its longstanding partnership with Ghana, emphasizing the need for both countries to pursue mutual development goals.

He noted that China is ready to collaborate with Ghana in advancing cooperation across key sectors to contribute to building an “all-weather China-Africa community with a shared future in the new era.”

Xi urged both sides to effectively implement the outcomes of the 2024 Beijing Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) and explore new areas of collaboration, including mining, energy, infrastructure, agriculture, and fisheries.

He further expressed optimism that Ghana would soon begin to enjoy the benefits of China’s zero-tariff trade policy for African countries, aimed at enhancing trade competitiveness and economic growth.

President Mahama, in his remarks, congratulated China on successfully hosting the Global Leaders’ Meeting on Women, describing it as an event of “great significance” that demonstrates China’s global leadership in promoting gender equality and women’s empowerment.

He reaffirmed Ghana’s adherence to the One-China policy and expressed confidence in the future of Ghana-China cooperation, particularly in industrialization, renewable energy, and technology exchange.

President Mahama also reiterated Ghana’s commitment to multilateralism and international governance reforms, pledging to support global initiatives that promote fairness, justice, and balanced development.

The meeting reaffirmed the enduring friendship between Ghana and China, with both leaders expressing confidence that their partnership will continue to grow stronger and deliver tangible benefits for their peoples.
