National Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketia, has reminded party members that the government’s ability to retain power will depend solely on its commitment to deliver on the promises made to Ghanaians during the 2024 campaign.
Speaking in Hohoe as part of his “Thank You Tour” of the Volta Region on Tuesday, October 14, 2025, Mr. Asiedu Nketia urged unity within the party and called on members to put aside internal disagreements over appointments to focus on national development.
“The quest for appointment accompanied by some amount of struggle — there were struggles about who should be a minister or DCE. I want to remind all of us that enough is enough,” he said.
“The decisions have been taken — whoever has to be a minister has become a minister, whoever has to become an ambassador has become an ambassador, and whoever has to become a DCE has become a DCE. It is time for us to revert our minds to the promises we made to Ghanaians. Our continued stay in office depends on our ability to fulfil those promises.”
On Galamsey and Job Creation
Mr. Asiedu Nketia also addressed concerns about the government’s efforts to tackle illegal small-scale mining (galamsey) and create jobs. He explained that although progress is being made, visible results will take time due to the complex nature of the challenges.
“People have been blaming the government for not yet delivering on galamsey control or job creation. Work has started, but it hasn’t shown results yet,” he said.
“However hard you try, you cannot produce a child in less than nine months. Some of these issues take time — if you stop galamsey today, it will take time for our rivers to clear and forests to recover.”
On Operation Recover All Loots (ORAL)
Touching on the Operation Recover All Loots (ORAL) initiative, the NDC Chairman reaffirmed the government’s resolve to retrieve stolen state funds allegedly misappropriated under the previous administration.
His remarks come amid criticism from former Auditor-General Daniel Yao Domelevo, a member of the ORAL task force, who recently expressed frustration over the slow pace of prosecutions.
Mr. Asiedu Nketia, however, insisted that the process is ongoing and will yield results.
“We are not pulling the brakes on ORAL. We all know how much the NPP government in eight years stole from the national coffers. We promised to recover all the monies that have been stolen, and we are working seriously to ensure they are retrieved and put to good use,” he stressed.
The NDC Chairman concluded by urging party members to stay focused, disciplined, and supportive of President John Dramani Mahama’s administration as it implements its Reset Agenda to restore the nation’s economy and governance integrity.
