“I’m running for General Secretary to rebuild and reignite the NPP” – Eugene Boakye Antwi

Former Subin Member of Parliament and Deputy Minister for Works and Housing, Eugene Boakye Antwi, has officially declared his intention to contest the position of General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), pledging to rebuild, reform, and reignite the party into a stronger, more disciplined, and results-driven organization.

Speaking on Citi FM’s Eyewitness News on Tuesday, October 14, 2025, Mr. Boakye Antwi said his decision was driven by a deep conviction to restore efficiency and unity within the NPP, which he described as having become “weak and disconnected” in recent years.

“I am contesting for the General Secretary position because I want to strengthen our party from the ground up. The NPP must operate efficiently at every level and remain a credible platform that delivers real results for Ghanaians,” he stated.

He noted that the party’s internal challenges and weakened grassroots structures contributed to its disappointing performance in the 2024 general elections, stressing the need for urgent organizational reforms.

“Our structures let us down in 2024. The results were not what a governing party of our stature should produce. We must fix that — and that’s why I’m offering myself to serve,” he said.

Mr. Boakye Antwi emphasized the importance of returning to the NPP’s founding principles of discipline, loyalty, and accountability, adding that his vision is to rebuild trust among party members and restore the NPP’s reputation as a party of competence and integrity.

His announcement adds to growing anticipation ahead of the NPP’s national executive elections, where calls for leadership renewal and grassroots reorganization continue to intensify as the party prepares for the 2028 elections.
