Parliament to Resume Sitting on October 21 – Speaker Bagbin Announces

The Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Hon. Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, has officially announced that the Third Meeting of the First Session of the Ninth Parliament of the Fourth Republic of Ghana will commence on Tuesday, October 21, 2025, at 2:00 p.m. at Parliament House, Accra.

This was contained in a statement issued and signed by the Speaker on Wednesday, October 8, 2025, from his office in Accra. The notice follows an earlier communication dated October 6, 2025, which deferred the initial commencement of the meeting.

According to the statement, the decision to reconvene Parliament was made pursuant to Order 58 of the Standing Orders of Parliament, which empowers the Speaker to determine and announce the date for the commencement of parliamentary meetings.

The upcoming session marks an important phase in the legislative calendar, as Members of Parliament (MPs) are expected to deliberate on key national issues, including the presentation of government bills, policy reviews, and possibly the 2026 budget estimates. The session will also provide an opportunity for various parliamentary committees to present reports on ongoing national projects and governance oversight activities.

Observers anticipate that discussions during the session will center on pressing matters such as the economy, security, youth employment, and government expenditure controls as Ghana prepares for the next fiscal year.

The Speaker’s notice serves as an official reminder to all Members of Parliament to resume duties and participate in legislative business after the short recess.

The statement concluded by reaffirming the Speaker’s commitment to ensuring that Parliament continues to serve as a platform for transparency, accountability, and effective governance.
