Ghana Armed Forces Not a Place for ‘Aged Party Loyalists’ – Ntim Fordjour Fires Back at Sam George

The Member of Parliament for Assin South, Rev. John Ntim Fordjour, has hit back at calls by some lawmakers to raise the upper age limit for recruitment into the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF), describing the proposal as “misconceived and misguided.”

His response follows comments by the Minister for Communication, Digital Innovation and Technology, Sam George, and the Majority Whip, Rockson Nelson Dafeamekpor, who argued that the current age restrictions should be reviewed upward to 30 years or beyond to accommodate more qualified applicants.

In a post reacting to their position, Rev. Fordjour accused the two MPs of attempting to politicise military recruitment.

“Hon. Sam George and Hon. Dafeamekpor’s call for unqualified overage NDC foot soldiers into the military is a misconceived and misguided populist agenda,” he wrote.

“We will resist every attempt by the NDC to load their overage foot soldiers into the Ghana Armed Forces. The Ghana Armed Forces is not a dumping ground for overage NDC foot soldiers.”

The Assin South MP cautioned against what he described as “political interference” in the affairs of the military, stressing that such moves could compromise discipline, standards, and professionalism within the service.

“It is extremely backward and dangerous to force unqualified people into the military as a reward for party patronage,” he warned. “Stop the undue interference in the credible and professional recruitment process underway by the Ghana Armed Forces.”

The exchange comes amid renewed debate over recruitment policies and concerns about fairness and transparency in enlistment into Ghana’s security services.
