The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Mr. Christian Tetteh Yohuno, has visited the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) in Kumasi to check on a critically injured police officer who sustained severe injuries during recent violent clashes between rival groups at Sampa in the Bono Region.
The visit, which took place on Tuesday, October 7, 2025, formed part of the IGP’s effort to ensure that affected personnel receive full medical attention and support following the unrest.
According to police sources, eight officers were injured when their service vehicle came under fire from unidentified gunmen during the disturbances. The vehicle reportedly veered off the road and plunged into a ditch. While seven officers were treated and discharged, one officer with critical injuries was airlifted to Kumasi for specialised medical care. Hospital officials have since confirmed that he is in stable condition and responding to treatment.
The IGP was accompanied by members of the Police Management Board (POMAB), who commended the bravery and professionalism displayed by the officers in the line of duty. Mr. Yohuno assured the injured officer and his family of the Police Administration’s commitment to cover all medical expenses and provide the necessary welfare support.
In a statement released by the Ghana Police Service, the IGP noted that a high-powered delegation has been deployed to Sampa to assess the situation on the ground, visit other affected personnel, and coordinate with local authorities to maintain law and order.
The delegation is expected to meet with the Bono Regional Security Council (REGSEC), traditional leaders, youth representatives, and community stakeholders to foster dialogue and promote lasting peace in the area.
Meanwhile, additional reinforcement teams from the Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) Unit and the Formed Police Unit (FPU) have been stationed in Sampa and adjoining communities to intensify patrols, secure critical installations, and prevent further escalation of violence.
The Police Service has urged residents to remain calm and cooperate with security personnel as investigations continue into the root cause of the clashes. The Service reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining peace and ensuring the safety of all citizens in the Bono Region and beyond.
