Police launch investigation into robbery and murder at Abesim Filling Station

The Bono Regional Police Command has commenced a full-scale investigation into a robbery and murder incident that occurred at Frimps Filling Station at Abesim in the Sunyani East Municipality on Monday, October 6, 2025.

The unfortunate incident led to the death of a security guard, identified as Akwasi Addai, believed to be in his late sixties. According to a police statement signed by Chief Inspector Thomas Akeelah, the deceased was discovered lifeless on the porch of a nearby shop with deep head wounds, indicating he may have been attacked during the robbery.

Preliminary findings suggest that unknown assailants broke into the premises during the night, targeting the office used for electricity and mobile money transactions. The robbers reportedly made away with an undisclosed amount of money and also ransacked the manager’s office, attempting to break into a metal safe before fleeing the scene.

A crime scene investigation team has since retrieved a blood-stained axe and a wooden club, believed to have been used as weapons in the brutal attack. The body of the deceased has been deposited at the Sunyani Teaching Hospital mortuary for preservation and autopsy, while forensic experts continue to analyze the evidence gathered.

The police have begun intensive intelligence operations in and around Abesim to trace the suspects. CCTV footage from nearby shops and streets is being reviewed as part of efforts to track the movement of the perpetrators before and after the incident.

Residents of Abesim and surrounding communities have expressed fear and shock over the incident, calling for heightened security and regular night patrols in the area, which has recently experienced isolated thefts and break-ins.

In an official statement, the Bono Regional Police Command assured the public of its commitment to swift justice, emphasizing that no effort will be spared in apprehending those responsible.

“We wish to assure the public, especially residents of Abesim, that investigations are progressing with urgency. We are determined to bring the culprits to justice and restore public confidence and safety in the area,” the statement read.

The police have also urged anyone with relevant information about suspicious persons or activities in the vicinity of the filling station to report to the nearest police station or call the regional command’s emergency lines.

Meanwhile, management of Frimps Filling Station has pledged full cooperation with the ongoing investigation and expressed condolences to the family of the deceased security guard, describing him as a dedicated and hardworking employee.
