NDC flagbearer race: Dr. Zaato questions exclusion of Prof. Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang from Global Info Analytics poll

Political Science Lecturer at the University of Ghana, Dr. Joshua Jebuntie Zaato, has raised concerns over the absence of Vice President Prof. Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang from the recent Global Info Analytics poll on the National Democratic Congress (NDC) flagbearer race.

According to him, it is surprising that at a time when President John Dramani Mahama enjoys high approval ratings within the party, his Vice President was not considered in the survey.

“Why is the President so popular in the party, and the Vice President is not? Why was she not polled?” Dr. Zaato questioned during an appearance on The KeyPoints on TV3, Saturday, October 5.

Responding earlier, Executive Director of Global Info Analytics, Mussa Dankwah, explained that the poll only focused on Haruna Iddrisu, Johnson Asiedu Nketia, Julius Debrah, and Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson because they were the only figures who scored 10% or more in their tracking polls.

The survey placed Haruna Iddrisu in the lead with 30%, followed by Asiedu Nketia with 24%, Dr. Ato Forson with 18%, and Julius Debrah with 10%. Other personalities, including Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, Eric Opoku, Joshua Alabi, Armah Kofi-Buah, Kwame Awuah-Darko, and Spio Garbrah, scored below 10%.

In simulated scenarios, Haruna Iddrisu widened his lead when Ato Forson was excluded, while a contest without Haruna saw a tight race between Asiedu Nketia and Ato Forson.

Meanwhile, in the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Global Info Analytics’ poll showed former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia leading the presidential primaries with 47% delegate support, ahead of Kennedy Agyapong, though a large number of undecided delegates leaves room for changes in the race.
