Ashanti Region: Three killed in mining pit collapse at Manso Takorase

Three persons have died after a mining pit caved in at Manso Takorase in the Amansei South District of the Ashanti Region.

The incident happened on October 1, 2025, when six people were working in an abandoned pit and got trapped. According to the local assembly member, Bonsu Dominic, rescue efforts saved three individuals, while the other three were retrieved dead.

The Amansie area, noted for extensive mining activities, has recorded several such accidents in recent years, heightening calls for stricter enforcement of mining regulations and improved safety education.

The bodies of the deceased have been taken to the St. Martin’s Catholic Hospital morgue as police and district authorities probe the circumstances.

This follows a recent disaster at Kasotie in Atwima Mponua District, where seven people died and five sustained injuries in a similar pit collapse.
