In a bold step towards educational empowerment, the Chief Baba Braimah Education Fund—an initiative established by the Member of Parliament (MP) for Salaga-South, Hon. Hajia Zuwera Mohammed Ibrahimah—has supported its first beneficiary, marking a historic milestone for the constituency.
The Fund extended its maiden package to Mr. Fatawu Inusah, a first-year Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.) Information and Communication Technology student at the University for Development Studies (UDS). The brief but impactful presentation was held at the Constituency Party Office, where the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Hon. Kassim Yazid Rabiu, led a delegation to present a full scholarship of GHS 2,000 to cover tuition fees, alongside a brand-new laptop.
The support followed the successful review of Mr. Inusah’s application, making him the very first student to benefit from the Fund—even before its official launch later this year.
Speaking at the event, the MCE commended the MP for keeping her electoral promise to prioritize education:
“This fund was created to support brilliant but needy students like Mr. Fatawu. It is not just a donation—it is an investment in the future of Salaga-South. We want to see our students excel on national and international stages.”
An emotional Mr. Inusah Ibrahim (popularly known as Inusah Chokosi), father of the beneficiary, expressed heartfelt gratitude to the MP and the Fund, noting how the support lifted a heavy burden from his family.
For his part, Mr. Fatawu described the gesture as life-changing:
“This is a dream come true for me. I promise to study hard and make the MP and everyone who believed in me proud.”
The Chief Baba Braimah Education Fund, first announced by Hon. Hajia Zuwera during the 2025 Damba Durbar in Kpembe, is named in honor of Chief Baba Braimah, a respected traditional leader and the first MP for the constituency (1992–2000). Once launched, the Fund will be governed by a board to ensure transparency and accountability, with a mandate that goes beyond scholarships. Planned initiatives include the provision of learning materials, academic competitions (debates, quizzes, Qur’an recitation contests), and recognition schemes for outstanding teachers and students.
The ceremony was attended by several dignitaries, including constituency executives, elders, and community leaders, symbolizing broad unity and collective support for the initiative.
As Salaga-South looks forward to the official launch of the Fund later this year, the story of Mr. Fatawu stands as a powerful testament to how visionary leadership, community collaboration, and targeted investment in education can transform lives and shape the future of an entire constituency.
