Leading New Patriotic Party (NPP) figure and Chair of the Africa Prosperity Network, Gabby Otchere-Darko, has thrown his support behind President John Dramani Mahama’s powerful declaration at the 80th United Nations General Assembly that “the future is African.”
In his UNGA address, President Mahama highlighted demographic and economic projections that position Africa as a key driver of global transformation in the coming decades.
“By the year 2050, more than 25% of the world’s population is expected to come from the African continent. Additionally, by 2050, one-third of all young people, aged 15 to 24, will be residing on the African continent. So, you see, the future is African,” Mahama told world leaders, stressing Africa’s resilience and capacity for systemic change.
He further outlined Ghana’s recent economic turnaround under his administration, citing a sharp reduction in inflation, an appreciation of the cedi, and renewed investor confidence. Mahama noted that his government’s “reset agenda” and flagship 24-Hour Economy Initiative are reshaping Ghana’s economic foundation.
Reacting to the speech on his X page, Gabby Otchere-Darko endorsed Mahama’s call, urging African leaders to move with urgency toward continental integration.
“The future is, indeed, African. And, to build that, let us work with greater urgency in dismantling our borders…” he wrote.
Mr. Otchere-Darko’s statement adds to ongoing debates around the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) and broader calls for political and economic unity on the continent to unlock its full potential.
