A member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Communications Team, Kwasi Kwarteng, has cast doubt on Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s chances in the party’s upcoming presidential primaries, forecasting a decisive win for Kennedy Agyapong.
Speaking on Nhyira FM’s morning show, Mr. Kwarteng claimed that Dr. Bawumia’s support base is dwindling as influential figures within his camp have abandoned his campaign.
“All the big wigs in Bawumia’s camp have bowed out. That gives Kennedy Agyapong a clear advantage,” he argued.
Mr. Kwarteng further dismissed the latest Global Info Analytics poll, which placed Kennedy Agyapong’s support at 17 percent, questioning both its credibility and sampling technique.
“The Global Info Analytics poll giving Kennedy Agyapong 17% is unreasonable. It could be biased based on their sampling technique,” he said.
Despite rejecting the poll, he pointed to what he described as a steady decline in Dr. Bawumia’s popularity. According to him, the former Vice President cannot surpass 27 percent in the primaries.
“Dr. Bawumia cannot cross 27% in the flagbearer race. The Global Info Analytics data itself shows his votes dropping by 5% every month. Ken Agyapong will win this flag bearer race with between 62% and 64%,” he predicted.
He also highlighted what he saw as a symbolic gain for the Ashanti Region should Kennedy Agyapong become flagbearer.
“Ashanti Region could have another First Lady apart from Konadu Agyemang Rawlings. Kennedy Agyapong’s wife is from Asante Mampong,” he noted.
On concerns about Agyapong’s temperament, Kwarteng urged delegates to focus on competence rather than personality.
“We must look beyond Ken Agyapong’s temper and focus on his leadership capacity,” he added.
