Ministry of Defence Confirms Nationwide Exercise with Reduced Costs and Enhanced Transparency
The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF), in collaboration with the Ministry of Defence, has announced the commencement of a nationwide recruitment exercise as part of a major expansion plan. Over the next three years, GAF aims to enlist 12,000 new personnel to strengthen national security and support peacekeeping and internal stability operations.
This initiative forms a key part of government’s broader strategy to modernize and reinforce Ghana’s defence capacity. According to the announcement, the recruitment drive begins this week and will roll out progressively across all sixteen regions of the country.
In line with the vision of H.E. President John Dramani Mahama, who also serves as Commander-in-Chief of the Ghana Armed Forces, this recruitment exercise places a strong emphasis on affordability, accessibility, and fairness.
As part of these efforts, the cost of recruitment forms has been reduced by more than 40% compared to previous years, significantly lowering the financial barrier to entry for thousands of prospective applicants.
Additionally, the recruitment process has been decentralized, with regional recruitment centres being established to ensure that all qualified Ghanaians—regardless of their location—have an equal opportunity to serve their country.
The Ministry of Defence has reiterated that recruitment into the Ghana Armed Forces is strictly merit-based and cautioned the public against fraudulent individuals or syndicates attempting to exploit the process.
“Recruitment into the Ghana Armed Forces is not for sale—and will never be for sale under our #EagleEyes watch,” the Ministry stated. “Any individual or group involved in recruitment fraud will face the full force of the law.”
In line with efforts to enhance transparency and professionalism, GAF has confirmed that no part of the recruitment will be conducted via social media. Official updates, including qualification criteria, application procedures, and regional centre details, will be published through:
Applicants must meet the official qualification standards, including medical fitness and physical readiness, and must be fully prepared for the rigours of military life. As the notice pointedly remarks:
“All qualified applicants must be medically fit—and be prepared to abandon all hope of normal life.”
This reflects the demanding nature of military service and the high standards expected within the Ghana Armed Forces.
This large-scale recruitment is part of a broader agenda to build a defence force that reflects the unity, discipline, and resilience of the Ghanaian people.
The Ministry encourages all eligible citizens with the desire to serve and protect the nation to stay informed and apply through official channels only.
