National Security Probes Alleged GH¢5,000 Bribe for Aburi Girls’ SHS Placement

The Ministry of Education has launched a formal investigation, with support from national security agencies, into a viral allegation that admission into Aburi Girls’ Senior High School is being sold for GH¢5,000.

In a statement signed by Deputy Minister Dr. Clement Abas Apaak, the Ministry described the claim as serious but said efforts to trace the original source have so far failed. The allegation, reportedly posted by one Gertrude Adzo Borklo, suggested parents could secure placement for a fee—a charge the Ministry insists is false and aimed at creating the impression that Ghana’s Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) Computerized School Placement System is corrupt.

Attempts to contact the alleged author have been unsuccessful, as her social media account was deactivated shortly after the post. The Ministry also warned that anonymous users are amplifying similar unfounded claims.

Authorities are collaborating with National Security, the Cyber Security Authority, and other agencies to identify those behind the allegations. Meanwhile, the Ministry reaffirmed that the school placement system is completely free, stressing that no payment is required for placement.

The public has been urged to report anyone soliciting money for placements by calling 0541548223 or sending WhatsApp messages to 0244908957. The Ministry assured swift action against anyone found guilty as it works to protect the integrity and transparency of the placement process.
