Gov’t Disburses Over GHS2bn Through DACF for Local Development – Veep

The government has disbursed more than two billion Ghana cedis through the District Assemblies Common Fund (DACF) to support community-level development initiatives across the country.

Vice President, Prof. Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, made this known at the National Dialogue on Decentralisation and Responsive Governance in Accra.

The two-day dialogue, themed “Resetting Decentralisation for Responsive Local Governance and Effective Service Delivery,” convened key stakeholders and development partners to deliberate on reforms, challenges, and strategies for strengthening Ghana’s local governance system.

Prof. Opoku-Agyemang stressed that the allocation demonstrates government’s commitment to ensuring equitable distribution of resources and improving essential services.

“As government works to improve the disbursement of resources to our districts, we must also note that unprecedented amounts are being transferred directly to our local governments. So far, over 2 billion Ghana cedis have been disbursed through the District Assemblies Common Fund to support development initiatives and improve essential service delivery at the community level,” she said.

She emphasized the need for development interventions to be both citizen-centered and data-driven, ensuring that decentralisation delivers tangible benefits.

“We must ensure that our development interventions respond to the needs and aspirations of our citizens. Our approach must be data and evidence-driven,” the Vice President added.
