Ghana’s newly appointed Ambassador to China, Kojo Bonsu, has officially taken office in Beijing, vowing to strengthen diplomatic and economic ties between the two nations while delivering on key performance targets.
In a post on X (formerly Twitter), the former Kumasi Mayor expressed his determination to excel in his new role.
“As I assume office today in Beijing, I am ready to work hard and deliver on my KPIs. I’m committed to strengthening the ties between Ghana and China, while ensuring that my mandate is fulfilled with excellence,” he wrote.

Mr. Bonsu, born Michael Kojo Bonsu (also known as Mensa-Bonsu), is a seasoned businessman, sports administrator, and politician. He served as Metropolitan Chief Executive of the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly from 2013 to 2016 and is a prominent member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
His appointment comes at a critical time as Ghana seeks to deepen trade, investment, and development cooperation with China, one of its largest economic partners. With his blend of public service experience and private sector expertise, Mr. Bonsu is expected to play a pivotal role in advancing Ghana’s strategic interests in Asia.
