“Show Commitment in Galamsey Fight and We’ll Support” – Miracles Aboagye to Government

Dennis Miracles Aboagye, an aide to former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has challenged the government to demonstrate genuine commitment to the fight against illegal mining (galamsey), warning that the administration’s current approach falls short of expectations.

Speaking on Eyewitness News on Monday, September 22, 2025, Mr. Aboagye accused President John Dramani Mahama’s government of failing to match its anti-galamsey rhetoric with decisive action.

“As of 11:00 a.m. this morning, our drones captured galamsey operators actively mining in the Pra River. I even tagged the Minister for Government Communication in the video to show the extent of the damage,” he revealed.

He argued that visible and sustained action by the government would motivate citizens and stakeholders to rally behind efforts to protect Ghana’s rivers, forests, and farmlands.

“All we are asking is for the government to at least show some effort so we can all join the fight. But if the government continues to deny the very existence of the menace, then we are in serious trouble,” he cautioned.

Mr. Aboagye further stressed that combating galamsey must rise above partisan politics.

“This fight is beyond NPP and NDC,” he concluded.
