Minority Leader in Parliament, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, has challenged the Mahama-led administration to account for its performance nearly a year after returning to power, accusing the government of prioritising political persecution over delivering on its promises to Ghanaians.
Speaking at the Young Commons Forum summit at the University of Education, Winneba (UEW) on Saturday, September 20, the Effutu MP expressed disappointment that the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) appears more focused on settling political scores than tackling critical national issues such as youth unemployment.
“All too soon, December will come, and one year will be gone, and the question is: what have they to show?” Afenyo-Markin asked. “The youth unemployment situation—have they added to the unemployment, or have they taken more of the youth into employment? These are the real questions.”
He described the prevailing political climate as a “vicious cycle of political persecution,” where successive governments prioritise targeting opponents instead of implementing their manifesto commitments to improve the lives of citizens.
The Minority Leader urged Ghanaians, particularly the youth, to move beyond partisan attacks and instead hold leaders accountable through constructive engagement.
“Let’s not spend our time on social media abusing one another. Let us spend the time to question policies, show patriotism, and be determined to make Ghana a better place,” he said.
