Former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has taken a swipe at the Mahama-led administration, claiming that the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) is already creating the conditions for a New Patriotic Party (NPP) comeback in the 2028 general elections.
Speaking at the commissioning of a new Bantama constituency office on Thursday, Akufo-Addo argued that the NPP’s record of achievements under his leadership and that of former President John Agyekum Kufuor will serve as a powerful campaign tool when the party seeks to reclaim power.
“You saw the great works under me and Ex-President Kufuor. We did a lot. These are what we will be using for our campaign to reclaim power. You are witnesses to what is happening under this current administration. Things aren’t going on well,” he told cheering supporters.
NPP General Secretary Justin Kodua Frimpong echoed the former president’s sentiments, stating that many Ghanaians who abstained from voting in the last election now regret their decision. He urged the party to learn from its 2024 defeat and fix internal issues before heading into the next national contest.
“After voting, we must fix the wrongdoings in our party before heading into the next contest,” Kodua said, adding that once the party elects its 2026 flagbearer, it must unite and campaign vigorously.
Former President John Agyekum Kufuor, who also attended the ceremony, advised NPP aspirants to avoid divisive rhetoric and ensure a clean campaign as the party prepares for its internal elections.
“The aspirants should be mindful of what they say. They should ensure their supporters also avoid insulting one another. Let’s lead by example,” he cautioned, stressing that political service must ultimately benefit the nation.
The commissioning of the new Bantama constituency office—described as a symbol of unity and grassroots empowerment—brought together party stalwarts, constituency executives, traditional leaders, and enthusiastic supporters, signaling renewed energy in the NPP’s drive toward a 2028 victory.
