Mobile Money Transactions in Ghana Hit GHC354.1bn in August

Mobile money transactions in Ghana reached GHC354.1 billion in August 2025, according to the Bank of Ghana’s latest Summary of Economic and Financial Data.

The figure, though slightly lower than the GHC355.4 billion recorded in July, underscores the continued dominance of mobile payments in Ghana’s financial ecosystem.

Transaction volumes surged to 831 million in August, up from 778 million in July, reflecting the steady rise in the use of digital payment channels. Registered mobile money accounts climbed to 77.7 million, with 25.1 million active users, signalling ongoing progress in financial inclusion.

Mobile money interoperability also recorded notable gains, with cross-network transfers rising to GHC4.9 billion in August, supported by 26.4 million transactions.

Industry analysts note that while the overall value of transactions dipped marginally, the growth in transaction volumes and active users highlights deepening trust in mobile money for everyday payments, remittances, and business transactions.

Despite recent currency pressures and fiscal challenges, experts say the sustained momentum of digital payments demonstrates the resilience of Ghana’s payment systems and cements mobile money as a cornerstone of the financial sector.
