TikToker Jailed 7 Months for Threats Against President Mahama, Officials

David Kwodow Prah Afful, popularly known on social media as Kwame Nkrumah II, has been sentenced to seven months in prison for issuing violent threats against President John Dramani Mahama, Members of Parliament, and other government officials.

Afful, who went viral after a TikTok livestream in which he vowed to kill state officials if armed with a gun or cutlass, appeared before an Accra Circuit Court where he pleaded guilty to threat of death and offensive conduct conducive to the breach of the peace.

He begged government officials for forgiveness, but the court handed down the custodial sentence on Tuesday, September 16, 2025.

The Ghana Police Service arrested Afful at his hideout near Kasoa Market on Saturday, September 13, around 2:20 p.m. after the video sparked widespread outrage.

In the footage, Afful allegedly threatened to kill politicians, journalists, and civil servants using state-registered green number plate vehicles. He also threatened to burn down marketplaces and incite others to commit similar acts of violence.

Police stressed in a statement following his arrest that while freedom of speech is protected, the service “will not tolerate statements that incite violence, insecurity, or public disorder.”
