President John Dramani Mahama has pledged that his government will dedicate GHS5 billion every year to road maintenance nationwide.
Speaking at the sod-cutting ceremony for the Dawhenya-Afienya-Dodowa Road Project, the former president said the allocation will come from the Ghana Road Fund as part of his flagship infrastructure agenda, The Big Push.
“We are not only constructing new roads, but we are also going to maintain them. So every year, the Ghana Road Fund is going to put aside about GHS5 billion for road maintenance alone—pothole patching, desilting, grass cutting, and all the things that keep roads in good shape,” Mahama said.
He explained that the dedicated fund will ensure not just the expansion of Ghana’s road network, but also the sustainability and durability of existing roads through regular resurfacing and periodic rehabilitation works.
