Transport operators and traders in Accra’s CMB area on Tuesday, September 16, 2025, staged a protest against what they claim is an attempt by private developers to seize portions of land belonging to the CMB lorry station.
The demonstration, led by the Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU), the Concerned Drivers Association, the Commercial Transport Operators, and the Container Owners Association, commenced at the Ridge Roundabout.
Protesters are marching to the Jubilee House to deliver a petition to the Presidency.
The unions argue that the encroachment has displaced drivers and traders who depend on the lorry station for their livelihoods, forcing many onto the streets. They contend that this has worsened traffic congestion and heightened safety risks in the area.
They are therefore calling on the Presidency to intervene and safeguard the CMB lorry station, which they describe as a vital hub for Accra’s transport and trading activities.
