Former Minister of Education, Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, has taken a swipe at former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia over his recent comments on Ghana’s economic challenges, as the two face off in the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) presidential race.
Speaking on the campaign trail, Dr. Adutwum criticised Dr. Bawumia for what he described as “indirect attempts” to accept responsibility for the current state of the economy.
“If you want to apologise for your economic mess, go straight to the point and stop beating about the bush,” Dr. Adutwum said, urging his rival to be forthright with Ghanaians.
The former Education Minister accused Dr. Bawumia of presiding over policies that contributed to high inflation, a weakening cedi, and growing public debt, adding that Ghanaians deserve honesty rather than “carefully worded half-apologies.”
Both Dr. Adutwum and Dr. Bawumia are contesting in the upcoming NPP presidential primaries, a race expected to determine who leads the party into the 2028 general elections.
