“I Fixed Education, You Broke the Economy” – Adutwum Jabs Bawumia in NPP Presidential Race

Former Minister of Education, Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, has taken a swipe at former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia as the two contest for the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) flagbearer position.

Speaking during his campaign rounds, Dr. Adutwum contrasted his achievements in the education sector with what he described as the economic failures under Dr. Bawumia’s watch.

“I fixed education, but you broke the economy,” Dr. Adutwum declared, arguing that while his tenure brought significant reforms and improvements in access to quality education, Dr. Bawumia failed to deliver on his promises of economic transformation.

He added that Ghanaians had witnessed first-hand how the cedi’s depreciation, rising inflation, and high unemployment undermined confidence in the economy during Bawumia’s vice-presidency.

Dr. Adutwum urged NPP delegates to weigh competence and track records carefully, emphasizing that the party needed a leader who could restore credibility, unite the grassroots, and secure victory in the 2028 general elections.

Meanwhile, Dr. Bawumia’s camp has dismissed the criticisms as “cheap shots,” insisting that he remains the most experienced candidate to lead the NPP and build on its gains.

The NPP presidential primaries have intensified in recent weeks, with both candidates mounting spirited campaigns across the country.
