Education Minister Haruna Iddrisu has announced that the government will release GH₵1 billion from the GETFund in 2026 to tackle critical infrastructure challenges in schools nationwide.
The investment aims to address long-standing deficits and eventually phase out the double-track system in senior high schools. Speaking during a working visit to the Upper East Region, the minister emphasized the importance of peace and education, urging students to remain focused despite challenges posed by the Bawku conflict.
During his visit to Zebilla Senior High Technical School, Iddrisu declined to wear a bulletproof vest, stating that such protective gear is incompatible with a conducive learning environment. He stressed that lasting peace is crucial for rebuilding the city and restoring an atmosphere where education can thrive.
The minister also highlighted the disadvantages faced by students in conflict-affected areas, noting that their difficult circumstances are not taken into account during examinations, despite being graded alongside peers from peaceful regions.
